The New Road Bike // Swim, Bike, Run

This morning was my inaugural ride on my new bike, complete with bike shoes, clipless pedals, an extensive amount of spandex--I totally look like a cyclist. This morning as I left, I was worried most about looking dorky. You know the type--all the gear, fast bike, SLOW! Truth be told, I was also worried about crashing in my driveway. Lots of newbies crash on clipless pedals--when my dad got his, the guy at the bike shop told him there are two types of cyclists with clipless pedals--those who have crashed and those who will crash. And there are some serious cyclists on my street. And that would just not do. (and might I mention how hard it was for me to get out this morning? Second night in a row getting up twice with the baby and at least once with Mr. L. This is called major regression, folks!I did not crash. Instead, here I stand, against a fence on a major thoroughfare, in 35 degree weather, in full spandex, clacking on my iPhone and looking oh so cool. I ran over something. Something really sharp, apparently, as I now have two, yes TWO! flat tires. Irresponsibly, I do not have my bike-fix it kit yet attached to my bike. And, er, I'm not sure i'd know what to do with it if I had it.On the bright side, Mr. L is so excited to go on his first rescue mission. He is wearing his rescue shirt, shoes, even rescue socks, according to my husband. Gotta love that little guy. :)I learned some interesting things.Apparently, there is an "urban fishing spot" right along the trail. With a limit of four trout a day. And there was actually someone fishing. It's pretty cold outside if you aren't biking. My family is pretty awesome for coming to rescue me so cheerfully.I'm taking my husband up on bike repair 101 tonight. My bike on the roof definitely improves the look of our car. I learned how to get my bike on the rack.I actually saw some wildlife this morning.

And bonus--my bike is light enough that I can hold it in one hand while running across the street!Update: Despite a downhill day, the day did climb back up. And I even got in a run. And I felt fast. And now I can barely walk. :)
