Amy from Amy's Creative Side is currently hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival Spring 2010--its a great opportunity to see everyone's favorite quilts! If you haven't been here before, welcome! If you have been here recently, you will probably recognize my favorite quilt. In honor of Bike Month 2010, I included the representation of my house (to the right) first.I completed this quilt, called "Community Gardens," as part of a local quilt challenge. I did not win, but really enjoyed telling a story through quilting, trying a new technique (raw edged applique), and working with fabric that I never would have chosen on my own. I'm intrigued by the idea of community gardens, and since our small backyard is almost entirely shaded, I hope to garden at one of the nearby community gardens if I can ever get my act together. Until then, this quilt will hang in our hallway downstairs and remind me of everything good that I love about our neighborhood. My husband and I are both involved locally in preserving historic neighborhoods and working towards complete streets (pedestrian, bike, and car friendly), and have really enjoyed our own little neighborhood. Community matters to us, and I wanted to create something that reflects that. (I was inspired by Amanda Jean of crazymomquilts' Ticker Tape Quilt for the actual central gardens.)

I participated last year too!
