DIY Preschool Quilt // Finished Modern Quilt

My son is almost done with preschool–it is amazing how quickly a year can go by! Poof! Gone. We absolutely loved his teacher. She was one of those rare people that the instant you meet them, you think they are fabulous. I think she made a big difference in his transition to becoming an older brother, and she just exudes love for everyone.

I offered to make her a quilt as an end of year class gift from her two classes. I’m not sure what I was thinking (I stayed up until 3am to finish it one night), but I am so glad that I did. I did have a slightly panicky feeling at the end of year party–one of the moms came up to me and said, “Oh, what class is your son going to be in next year? We know who is getting a quilt!” Oh no! I’m going to become “that mom.” I explained that this was a one time deal, and I was not starting a tradition. We’ll see, I’m sure.

I used the Whimsy collection by Fig Tree Quilts and “raw edge appliqued” the (teeny tiny) hands onto the quilt. More on the process later…

Beautiful quilt! You can see all the love. Teachers work so hard and make such an impact on our children’s lives. My son’s and daughter’s first grade teacher became one of my best friends, she was that special. I am sure the teacher that receives this will be touched beyond words. While she has made a difference in your son’s life, your kind expression will make a difference in hers! How special…….
