Learning to Paper Piece // Works in Progress

I realized this afternoon, driving home from the latest sewing lounge of the DC Modern Quilt Guild, that my social life revolves around sewing lately. It was an odd, but true, thought. The pool is closed, my baby takes naps when my friends take their kids to the park… it is a good thing for sewing, or I might become a hermit. Not really of course.

I have wanted to make a string quilt for some time. I have been taught how to paper piece (which is different than saying I know how to paper piece). Paper-pieced string quilts is much easier (and more fun), than say, circular flying geese–you don’t have to think about it. I had a fun time making these blocks, and chatting about fabric and hard to find fabric and too much fabric (more on that later). When I got home, I had my son (he who loves to tear the paper off of every crayon in the house) tear the paper off of the back. Turns out little fingers are perfect for tearing off the paper once the block is finished. This quilt in process is made almost entirely out of scraps. Very cheery and very bright scraps. Would you expect anything different?

Those are turning out beautifully! I do love how bright they are! Can’t wait to see how the quilt turns out! :) I’ll definitely be coming back!

p.s. I love to bike and swim too. I wish they did more biathlons, and cut out the running (I’m not much of a fan either. but I guess it’s worth it.) :)
