I had the great opportunity to be involved in the Virginia State Day of Service last Saturday, which also happened to be National Public Lands Day.  Our local LDS congregations volunteered with the National Park Service to clean up the George Washington Memorial Parkway along the Potomac River.  Lots of planning, totally worth it. We had about 250 people there, and pulled everything from water bottles to bicycles to shopping carts out of the river. Gross.  I think we all swore off styrofoam for good, got to pick up trash in a beautiful location, and had a great time. Until my son got stung by a bee twice and totally freaked out. You win some, you lose some.
