I’m really excited to announce the 100 Quilts for Kids Quilt Along (QA)! I wanted to design a quilt that was simple, could use up scraps if you wanted, and was fun to make. (It is based on a quilt I made in 2010). Bonus–you don’t have to think very hard while piecing the (foundation pieced) blocks, so it is the perfect project for a Modern Quilt Guild sewing day or to work on while kids are running around or while watching your favorite movie.
There are 2 size and multiple layout options for the QA quilt! (variations below)
Baby Quilt Stats: 40” x 48”, four or eight 12” string blocks
Throw Quilt Stats: 66” x 80”, four or eight 20” string blocks
Quilt Along posts will be on Thursdays–quilt at your own pace and have fun! Charity quilts are a perfect time to try something new–color palette, piecing method, quilting design, etc.
Thursday, July 19: Materials + Cutting Instructions
Thursday, July 26: Foundation Piecing the Blocks
Thursday, August 9: Assembling the Quilt Top
Thursday, August 16: Quilting Tips
Thursday, August 23: Quilting Tips from a Pro: Guest Post by Angela Walters
Thursday, September 6: Finishing the quilt
Thursday, September 20: QA Linky Party
Vickey of Gingersnaps Fabric Boutique on Etsy contacted me about doing a giveaway. Since this QA is jelly roll friendly, she is offering 2 Riley Blake jelly rolls to 2 different readers, in hopes that you make a charity quilt with them. I think Apple of My Eye and Fox Trails would make great quilts! Thanks, Gingersnap Fabrics!

Please leave a comment for a chance to win– 2 winners will be drawn! If you would like to add the 100 Quilts button or the Quilt Along button to your blog, or tweet/IG/FB about either event, please add another comment. I’d love your help getting the word out!
Note: Winners drawn 7/18:
Thanks for the giveaway. I’ve been a string block machine for charity quilts for Guild and I’d love to have more premade strings. Thanks.
I am so glad that I found your blog! I am so excited about this giveaway, and your 100 quilts for kids! I have been wanting to donate a quilt (not sure where to go here in Tucson, AZ) and I have been hesitant for time, $, and quality (I am still new to quilting). I will totally follow you and maybe gain the confidence to do it!

I’m in! I love the design for this quilt.
The Quilt Co East Quilt Guild of Pittsburgh PA delivered 23 quilts to Quilts for Kids, Inc. on Nov 27. We started last June with a cutting party, distributed kits at guild meetings, and shared the work. several of our members have long arm machines and shared in the quilting. Others preferred to do binding.
There are 9 more almost ready to send off, 4 are waiting to be quilted and bound. This is a wonderful organization led by Linda Ayers – they will send you a kit if you request one on their website: http://www.quiltsforkids.org/
They are in need of quilts for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Financial donations to cover shipping costs are also appreciated. Please help.
