The QuiltThis quilt now lives very happily on my son's bed.  I started collecting fabric for "Pocket Full of Sunshine" in January of 2011, and so many flickr friends generously sent charms of their favorite fabrics for me to include. Thank you, friends! We spent last weekend in Virginia Beach with our east coast Grandma, L (who happens to be my sister's mother-in-law. Did you get all that?) It was as relaxing as being at the beach with 100,000 of your favorite friends in 100+ heat could be, which surprisingly, is very relaxing. We learned that the beach is just as fun whether you are the only ones on the beach (a la the Outer Banks) or whether there is only 2 feet between beach blankets for as far as you can see. I also finally figured out my calling in life--to teach little kids how to boogie board. So. Much. Fun.I digress. My son brought the quilt with him to the condo, and my husband suggested that the pier would be a great place to take photos of it. Is that true love, or what? Thanks, Jayme. And in case you are as in love with this quilt as I am, there are more pictures here.

This quilt sat un-quilted for quite some time, mostly because I was terrified of quilting a twin size quilt that I loved so much on my Bernina (which doesn't have a big throat space for wrangling quilts). Turns out, I shouldn't have been so worried--it really wasn't that bad. I was going for straight lines, a la Rita of Red Pepper Quilts, so I actually marked each and every crosshatch line. It turned out so much better than I expected, and once I washed it, it looks even better.

Why is that guy looking out over the ocean at dusk when he could be looking at this awesome quilt?
Back of the Quilt
The back--I ordered too much of this long out of print Mendocino octopii (by Heather Ross) a long time ago--the Mendocino fabrics are so soft, it made a perfect backing for this quilt. Of course I didn't have enough, hence the patchwork rows. And of course, my son likes the back best!Closeup
