I made this quilt in August when I was at my parents’ house–I can’t believe I’m just sharing it today! I must love this design, as I just finished quilting another plus quilt, this time out of Laura Gunn’s Cosmos line.
I used my walking foot (and bright blue thread on the front and brown on the back) to quilt (mostly) straight vertical lines. I eyeballed it, quilting lines approximately every 3/4”. I thought it would be fun to do cross hatch quilting on just one of the plus blocks. A straight line quilting tip: reduce your stitch length at the beginning and end of each row. That way, your stitches are less likely to come unravelled around the edges.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but Jeni has a Plus Quilt tutorial and pattern in case you want to make your own.
Note: If you use a layer cake for a plus quilt and want your squares to measure 5”, you will have to be creative in some of the plus blocks, as you will only have 4 charms instead of the required 5. I knew this going in, but just wanted to make sure you do, too!

Beautiful quilt and I love the Oh Deer fabric! Those deer are so cute and the birds are adorable too. Thanks for introducing My Fabric Friend and for the coupon code. I’ve already used it to get some Oh Deer fabric and some Grow With Me – that I’ve been searching for everywhere.
Gorgeous plus quilt. I’ve only ever done a plus mugrug
Thanks for the tip on straight line quilting your positively fun quilt. I’m going to attempt this type of quilting for the first time this week and will take your advice to heart.
