Desert Stars // Finished Modern Quilt

Desert Stars

I love the traditional “kite” block and have wanted to make a quilt like this for two years. I’m grateful for the Quilt Con deadline to make that actually happen! [QuiltCon is The Modern Quilt Guild’s inaugural show which will be held in February in Austin–juried quilts, classes galore, lectures, vendors, sponsors… I think it sounds like a grand time.]  I’m already working on a second one (in my head, of course).

QuiltCon Detail

I entered this quilt in the Dear Stella Challenge category for Quilt Con… I love the Maasai Mara fabrics in this colorway, and enjoyed pairing a variety of neutral and aqua and lime solids with the fabrics. I think the binding print is my favorite of the collection, and I had a great time quilting it, particularly in the bottom left hand corner.

This quilt is so pretty. I love the “geometry” of it. It looks as though the “kite” blocks could have been english paper pieced. Is that how you did it?
