In early December, the Modern Quilt Guild announced the Madrona Road Challenge. Madrona Road is Violet Craft’s fun fabric line from Michael Miller Fabrics. I bought a bundle last fall, spent time chopping it up at a family sewing afternoon while I was in Salt Lake City for the Sewing Summit, and there it sat. I had a sketch, I had the fabric, and I had no time to sew.
Fast forward a few months, and I finally spent some time last week piecing the quilt top. I shocked even myself when I was able to quilt and bind it during a sewing playdate with my friends Cindy, Laura, and Pam last week. It was the day of the deadline and I was a woman on a mission! Plus, it is only 25” square, so I think that worked in my favor.
Thanks Cindy and Laura for the quilting suggestion, I love how the cross hatch looks with the quilt. I’m working on a pattern for this design (in much bigger dimensions, don’t worry) and hope to have it ready in March.

That looks great! I recently completed my first quilt with a quilting pattern similar to yours! I love the colors of your piece too!
This quilt turned out great and I love the backside as much as the front. The quilting is great
I like this mini quilt a lot. I don’t know why but I’m often drawn to… how to call this… straight patterns? Simple isn’t the right word. I like squares, I’ve seen crosses like these and liked them. Definitely something to try out. Only problem: no more than 24 hours a day and so many projects I like to make.
Oh gosh I love it. I love the simple lines and set on point how they become such an interesting design. I think my style is vintage modern because I love square blocks so much.
