Gallery Wall // Finished Modern Quilt

Over the past few years, I have had a few opportunities to peek into the business side of the fabric and quilting industry. I think the most fascinating piece of the industry puzzle, for me, is fabric design. My friend Laura Gunn has a new line out called Edges--it's pretty fantastic! I was able to watch Edges go from sketch, to painting, to strikeoffs, to actual fabric in my hot little hands. I've also learned just how tight these deadlines are. I got the fabric for this quilt on a Friday afternoon, started the quilt that night, took Sunday off, and met her Monday morning to hand it off so it could fly to QuiltCon. Seriously. It is dizzying how tight some of these deadlines are (and how messy my house can get while I'm trying to meet one). And I'm only watching from the periphery!

This is Gallery Wall, the quilt I made that hung in the Michael Miller Booth at QuiltCon. I had a general idea of what I wanted it to look like, and I didn't want to chop the fabric up into too small of pieces. Putting the different "paintings"  together was a puzzle, and I think honestly I would have enjoyed it more if I had more time.

I quilted each of the color slabs differently, and then stippled in the gray background. I used a light gray Aurifil thread that matches the background perfectly. It's almost imperceptible, which makes me happy because I think the Tonal Mosaic is my favorite print, and I didn't want to detract from it.

Laura posted a picture of her sons' room, recently redone in Edges. The blues are my favorite, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. I can't wait to use my leftover bits and pieces in upcoming projects.
