Stars in the Sky // Finished Modern Quilt

Star-Quilt3.jpg

Star Quilt3I loved making this quilt for my new nephew.  He is 3 months old this week, and I got to meet him last night (and give my sister this quilt) and he is just so adorable. He also started eating the quilt almost immediately, so I assume that is a good sign.   I have posted a few process shots of this quilt here and on Instagram , and it went through a few iterations until I figured out the layout. I loved making a quilt for another (adorable) new nephew with the same half square triangles (WIP for Star Bright Quilt here). If I can't be a daily part of their lives, I'm happy to send snuggly quilts.Star QuiltThe quilt is a little big for a baby quilt, measuring 48'' by 60''. But then, he is a little big for a baby! It's backed in minky and stippled--I was too chicken to try out more fancy quilting. I pin basted the quilt really well, and had only minimal issues with puckering, which I was able to fix. Phew.It is hard to see in these pictures, but the white and cream squares and triangles are actually "low-volume" prints--that is, prints on a neutral background.  It is bound in one of my all time favorite fabrics-- a print from Rashida Coleman-Hale's Washi line.Star Quilt Washi BindingThe pictures were taken at a friend's parents' home in West Virginia. This is their backyard. It was amazing. I also took pictures of my daughter's "I'm Not Little" quilt there. And pictures for this week's "Favorite Things" post. Clearly, I loved West Virginia.
