A Wonky Star Quilt // Sewing + Friends

Dear-Stella-Wonky-Star-Quilt.jpg

Dear Stella Wonky Star QuiltI have always wanted to make a wonky star quilt, and today was the day!  Dear Stella donated 4  fat quarter bundles to the DC Modern Quilt Guild for our guild's charity quilts. I had some friends over today and we spent the morning sewing up these wonky star blocks out of this cute line called All Hands on Deck.  I was so happy with how they came out!Dear_Stella_100QuiltsThis is a  GREAT project for a group quilt, especially one with a mix of new and experienced quilters.  We made the blocks purposely bigger so we could trim them down, just in case the sewing wasn't perfect. I think everyone had fun and it was so great to see it come together so quickly. I really like assembly line sewing--2 people cut fabric, 2 people sew, one person trims, one person irons, and I just got to sit back and enjoy being with friends. Yes!

If you are local, we are having a sewing day THIS Saturday in Arlington, VA--you don't have to be a member of the DC Modern Quilt Guild to come--and we would love to see you there. Come for an hour, or come for the whole time (10-4). (Note--an All Hands on Deck fabric bundle is one of the prizes!)Dear Stella FQ BundleBring a charity sewing project, or help sew a block or two and then work on your own project. The more the merrier! We are donating our 4 quilts (and any others) to the DC Child and Family Services Agency, in particular the Partners for Kids in Care. They are soooo excited to receive the quilts. Hope to see you there!More about the sewing day here.Note: These blocks measure 15'' square, and I think I'm going to make one more row of blocks...
