Welcome to Part 3 of 25 Free Motion Quilting Ideas. Make sure to check out Part 1 and Part 2 as well. This is the last installment (for now) of free motion quilting (fmq) designs. I have found that people, myself included, are generally better at Circles, Lines, or Curves. Sometimes, things click in your brain different, or not at all, so keep that in mind as you try new stitches.Curves = flowers, leaves, curlicues, spirals, paisleys, etc. These are probably the hardest designs for me to get right, but I think they have the potential to make a big splash.Things to think about as you practice stitching different curved designs--you can vary the scale (1'' vs 2'' leaves, for example), the density (how close the leaves are together), and size (will your leaf have 2 echoes? 3? 4?), and each of these slight variations will give you a very different look.Try combining lines and curves--for example, you could stitch a box and fill it in with flowers, or alternate wavy lines with spirals. Some quilt tops will look best with the same free motion pattern over the entire quilt top. Others will really benefit from a variety of stitches in the same quilt top.Take a deep breath and remember to have fun!
