Library Books

Sometimes, I wish I could just drop everything and read for about a month straight. We have tried to go to the library more often, and I'm thrilled to see both of my kids interested in reading. There are so many good books out there, and I'm always happier when I am reading something (in addition to sewing blogs, of course).

In the spirit of Black Friday, I posted (affiliate) links to each of the books below...just in case you are looking for something for that special someone (who could also be yourself). I make a little income from affiliate links--I'm grateful when you purchase something from a link here!

My favorite book of the year: WonderFavorite Books of Years Past:Hannah CoulterThe Map of Love: A NovelSnow Flower and the Secret Fan: A NovelThe Namesake: A NovelBooks I've read in the last little while I've enjoyed:The Fault in Our Starsby John Green: If you read any reviews on this book, they will most likely involve the words precocious, cancer, love story, tears, fragility, tears, beautiful, heartbreaking, and tears. Nevertheless, a great read.Midnight in Austenland by Shannon Hale: not a sequel to her first book, but rather a second story set in the fictional Austenland--the destination vacation for women looking to escape from their lives and end up in 1810s England. If you like the first one, you will like this one.Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table (Random House Reader's Circle) by Ruth Reichl: If you enjoy cooking, or even just eating, you will enjoy Ruth Riechl's untraditional coming of age story. The the recipes are a bonus.  My husband didn't love it, but I'm not holding that against him.How Will You Measure Your Life? by Clayton M. Christensen, James Allworth, and Karen Dillon: A friend recommended this to me when I told him I was having trouble finding that elusive balance in my life. He suggested this book--it isn't a typical self help book. Instead, the authors present broad theories, mostly from the business world, that you can apply to your life to figure out priorities, think about relationships, and that all important chapter 3: stay out of jail (referring mostly to white collar crime from the authors' classmates at Harvard Business School 30 years ago.) I think I'm good on Chapter 3.Books on my "to read" list, thanks to recommendations from friends on Instagram (I'm @swimbikequilt there):The Book ThiefCutting for StoneWhere'd You Go, Bernadette: A NovelThe Signature of All Things: A NovelHappily, my library had at least one of the recommended books, and I plan to start Peace Like a River.Happy reading, everyone. As always, I'd be interested in your recommendations. I like a little bit of everything...Follow on Bloglovin
