Introducing the Double Dutch Table Runner, made from the Double Windmill block, found in Vintage Quilt Revival
This is a fun one because you get to both paper piece and sew with partial seams. If you have never sewn partial seams before, there is a well illustrated section in the book that should be all you need to get started.
It is found in the New Color Approaches section of the book, and I talk about highlighting a single block in a quilt, and changing up both the colors and/or the quilting to make it shine.
I had hoped to sew this up in true reds and greens for my table this Christmas, and I still might be able to pull it off. Next year!
A tip when paper piecing--cut out a single block's worth of fabric to make sure you are comfortable with the cut sizes and your fabric choices. I thought the navy pindot would look great with this block, but once I got it sewn together, I realized I didn't like it. I am so glad I didn't cut out a whole quilt's worth of navy triangles.
It is also helpful to mark your paper pieces with the correct color. It takes the thinking right out of the equation, and you can just enjoy sewing the block together.Note: There are a few errors that were introduced into this block post-testing.
