It's been so exciting to see copies of Vintage Quilt Revival popping up! We even had our first formal review by the Artful Yarn this week. Also, many thanks to my DC Modern Quilt Guild friends for purchasing so many this weekend--I so appreciate it.This is the Seaside Quilt, made from the Cross and Crown block.

Cross-and-Crown-Block

One of my favorite things about this quilt is that you can mix up both the number of rows of blocks and the amount of negative space for a completely different look.  For example, this quilt has 2 rows of 5 blocks each, and more negative space at the top than the bottom of the quilt. By adding more rows of blocks, or turning the quilt upside down, so to speak, it changes the feel of the design.I also like using blocks that create interesting secondary patterns--Cross and Crown is perfect for this. I think you could add in an extra half block at the top of the rows of blocks and your focus would be on the design below.Secondary Pattern DetailI talk about the color wheel and choosing colors in the Design note. As you can see, I had a lot of fun making this scrappy quilt in blues and greens, my favorite color combination. This is the only quilt that I had professionally long armed--my friend Cindy Luby did a wonderful job (as always) on a very tight turnaround. I think if I were re-writing the book, I would have had more of my quilts long armed to cut down on the stress of lots to do in a short amount of time.Seaside-Quilt-Back A picture of the back of the quilt, mostly because I miss the warm Virginia fall (we had our first "snowstorms" this week and it has been cold!)

Finally, I'm going to echo what Lee wrote in her post about the Rainbow Mosaic Pillow!  When you are paper-piecing (the book has a CD included) double-check your printer settings!  The default printer setting in Adobe Acrobat is often "Fit to Page"--don't use this! Whether you are sewing from a paper-piecing pattern in Vintage Quilt Revival or elsewhere, this will mean that your templates will print at not quite full size. This means that in many of these blocks, a "fit to page" printed template could result in a 12.5'' block being up to an inch too small. Click "Actual Size" when you print and you should have no problems!!Vintage Quilt Revival is available in my shop and it is also now shipping from Lee, Faith, Fat Quarter Shop, Barnes and Noble, the Intrepid Thread and elsewhere…not sure what’s taking  Amazon so long! If you pre-ordered and get a "now shipping" notice will you let one of us know? Thanks!Follow on Bloglovin
