Joseph's Coat Quilt // Vintage Quilt Sunday
Welcome to Week 1 of Vintage Quilt Sunday. I have loved reading emails, seeing pictures, and hearing stories about vintage quilts that are important to you! Feel free to email me any time throughout the series if you would like to have your quilt featured here. This quilt belongs to a good friend, Tricia Martin, and is one of things that inspired me to start the series in the first place. It belonged to her Great Aunt Helen Hoyt, and was most likely made in Santaquin, Utah. She found it in her Grandma Lucille Holladay's garage, along with Helen's steamer trunks, 8mm camera film, a projector, passports, and lots of black and white photos. Lucille was like a daughter to Aunt Helen as she had no children of her own. Tricia only wishes she could have asked either of these ladies the true story of how and why this beautiful hand stitched quilt was made! She recognized their value, both as objects and as items that connected her family to their past, and took them home. She has a great corner in her home where she displays them, and it makes me happy every time I visit. The quilt belonged to her great aunt, and she thinks that it was purchased or gifted to her. It is a Joseph's Coat or Orange Peel quilt, and in pretty remarkable shape. It was most likely made in the 1930s, and is hand pieced and hand quilted. I love the curved border and beautiful stitching! Thanks for sharing, Tricia!
Interested in Submitting a Quilt? I am looking for quilts that are beautiful, quilts that have great stories, quilts that are funky or fun, quilts that are unique, quilts that were made by your great great grandmother--basically, great vintage quilts. I will be posting on Sundays, and the first Monday of each month I plan to post a block tutorial based on one of the vintage quilts featured here.Vintage Quilt Pinterest BoardSome fun Joseph's Coat Links:Corey at Little Miss Shabby has a fun Joseph's Coat PincushionMartha at Q is for Quilter has a Joseph's Coat pattern from the 1930sErin at Crooked Path Design has an entire Pinterest Board full of beautiful Joseph's Coat Quilts.Kelli at Don't Look Now hosted a Joseph's Coat Quilt Along in 2009.
