Meet the Vintage Quilt Revival Quilts: Times Square Quilt

First, Happy New Year!!Second, thank you so much for all of the enthusiasm for this book--the kind words, Instagram photos, Amazon reviews, etc. have been more than I ever could have hoped for. Thank you for the Vintage Quilt Revival  love!Third, this is my Times Square Quilt, based on a traditional block called Art Square. This is one of the last quilts I made (in my friend Tricia's basement, when I was more than slightly stressed out), and it's one of my favorites. It goes together quickly and has a fun, graphic quality about it. It is also great for practicing your quilting, because it has a lot of negative space.

The Art Square block itself is just the center orange block. I used a Pineapple technique (part of the log cabin family of blocks) in this quilt. Basically, you repeat elements of the block over and over in a design that radiates outward. I talk more about it in the book, and it is something I would like to explore more.

I had a lot of fun picking fabric for this quilt, there are so many great color + white prints out there.

As I was looking back through photos I took while making this quilt (with my iphone at night, of course) I came across this shot, and realized how cool this quilt would look if the blocks were placed on point. Faith talks about putting blocks on point in her Sampler chapter, but I hadn't thought about making a pineapple-on point set of blocks before. It would be a great effect, I think!
