My friend Anna from Life Sew Crafty has hosted a blog hop over the last few months called For Pinks Sakesto honor friends and family members who have had breast cancer and to help her mother-in-law, Tina, especially.  Anna has asked fellow quilters and bloggers to make a pink block, any pattern, any size (bigger than 4'') that she is using to put together a quilt to donate to the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion in Grand Rapids, MI where her mother-in-law has had all of her cancer treatments.According to the National Breast Cancer Center, 1 in 8 women will have breast cancer in their lifetime. I have watched brave friends battle the disease successfully, including one recently while pregnant. Talk about inspiring. I have actually made a quilt for a good friend during her chemotherapy days, but it is red and black instead of pink, which is more her style. Something about making quilts to show love when you feel like there is little else you can do.Anna is hosting a giveaway on August 2nd for people who helped out (contributions, pink blocks, reposting about the blog hop, etc.) so you still have a few weeks to make a block or make a contribution towards her mother-in-law's medical bills.  Thankfully, Tina is two years cancer free, but the medical bills from chemo, radiation, surgeries, etc. have put a damper on her spirits. I'm sure the love Anna has shown buy organizing this will help.My block is very simple--it is a wonky log cabin (with an off-centered center). I used some of the new Cotton + Steel prints that I bought from Modern Domestic, which serendipitously is only 10 minutes from our temporary housing, with some fun scraps from a circle quilt I'm working on.  Jacquie has a tutorial for a wonky log cabin block if you are interested. Its an oldie but a goodie.I hope you consider making a block/contributing to the cause. Happy sewing! For Pinks Sakes Blog Hop Schedule
