Cannon Beach // The Great Outdoors

When we moved to Oregon on July 1, we followed the advice of smart friends, and we spent a week "on vacation," playing tourist, before my husband started his job. I feel like this really helped our kids have a positive first impression of Portland--after hitting the Oregon Zoo, multiple parks and downtown fountains (Sellwood Park and Keller Fountain Park are definitely favorites), the Portland Aerial Tram, etc., its hard not to be happy! I stayed behind for most of the adventures, but have since ventured out just a bit more.

One of our favorite places is Cannon Beach. The Oregon Coast isn't known for its balmy temperatures, either air or water, but if you bring a sweatshirt, its a beautiful place!

We have actually been three times--when you have nothing to do and no friends to do it with, plus drive a hybrid, an hour and a half drive to the beach is no big deal!  On our last trip, amazingly, the sun was shining, there was not a cloud in the sky, the tide pools were teeming with life, and the pictures were unedited. It was beautiful.

A bit of sand and sun and surf is good for the soul, even if you just sit on a beach chair the entire afternoon!
