Are you familiar with Dana Bolyard from Old Red Barn Co? Dana's blog was one of the very first I started reading... I think I have been reading about as long as she has been writing (2007!) I have always enjoyed Dana's blog because it wasn't *just* about quilting--she shares so many of the things that make her life happy--her garden, her family, travels, etc. I know some people just want quilts, quilts, quilts all the time, but I'm not one of them.

Anyway, congratulations to Dana on the publishing of her first book, Imagine Quilts!  My favorite quilt, predictably, is the cover quilt, which she calls Posy Patrol. Also a hashtag on Instagram (#posypatrol), Posy Patrol is the term Dana and her mom use to describe their daily walk around their garden to see what is in bloom. Dana made another version of Posy Patrol here, in much bolder colors, and Diane is working on a beautiful version in Denyse Schmidt fabrics (Instagram: @ylmommyx4 or pictured here.) This quilt would look lovely in the Verna Mosquera Snapshot that I'm giving away, courtesy of Dana. Just saying.I love the way this quilt is photographed, and thought the pixelated ampersand would make a great quilt for a teenager, especially.Imagine Quilts DetailsTitle:Imagine Quilts: 11 Patterns from Everyday InspirationsAuthor: Dana Bolyard, who blogs at Old Red Barn Co11 quilt patterns, many of them large throws (all but 3 are at least 65'' x 70'' ish, some bigger, some a bit smaller)Softcover, 64 pages, published by Martingale/That Patchwork Place58 pages of patterns, 6 pages of Terms, Tools and Tips + Tricks in the back of the bookList Price: $22.99A bit more about Dana: If you are a fan of quilt alongs, she started a quilt along group on Flickr that has been going since 2009! She also sells handmade soap and sugar scrubs.Premise: Dana mentioned that she usually isn't a pattern based sewist. She hopes, through this book, to provide you a peek into her method--she shares her inspiration for the quilt, a bit about how to turn said inspiration into the quilt, and then encourages you to do the same, both with her patterns and your own ideas. I like that Dana suggests not getting pigeon-holed into what type of quilter you are, but instead, to enjoy being a quilter! The book is divided into 4 categories: Be Inspired by Your Stash; Use Techniques in New Ways; Look Around; & Break the Rules.I think I'm most inspired by the Warm and Cool Log Cabin Quilt (Be Inspired by Your Stash--see above) and the various layout suggestions she provides,  and Zip It! Quilt (Use Techniques in New Ways). This quilt really is a unique way to use a dresden plate block.

Martingale is giving away a free E-book, and Dana also provided me with this beautiful Verna Mosquera (see below) fat quarter bundle.  Please leave a comment to enter (you can just say "hi" or tell me your favorite name for a baby girl. Because I'm struggling!)  I will pick a winner on Tuesday, September 2.
