My Division Street Diamonds Quilt in Scraps Inc 2 + Giveaway
all photos from the book were taken by Nydia Kehnle
Today I'm happy to share my quilt, Division Street Diamonds, named after a street in my neighborhood in our short Portland experiment. This quilt is in the new Lucky Spool book, Scraps Inc 2. Giveaway information, a discount, and links to more scrap quilts located at the end of the post! Edited to add: Giveaway is closed, the winner is Erin, comment #37. Thanks to everyone for entering and saying hi!There are some really fun scrap quilts in this book, made by talented quilters, and as you can see from the photo of my baby below, I am definitely not lacking in scraps! Side note: She loves to pull them all out of the bin, and she thinks I love to put them all back in. Ha!
I think I need to make a quilt or two from the book, and I don't even think it would make a dent in my scraps. [Note: I have another bin full of solid scraps!] I have tried every known way to sort scraps.By size.By color.By size and color. In bins.In boxes. All over the floor. Just kidding. Sort of.In pull out drawers.Do you know what my favorite way to store scraps is? Put them all in a large wire basket (I bought mine at Target) and put it next to your sewing machine. You can see what is in there and you don't have to worry about sorting them immediately
You know what? I actually *use* my scraps when they stored are like this!
Division Street Diamonds uses scraps in 4 colors (plus a background). For me, limiting the palette of a scrap quilt helps the quilt feel more cohesive and less "I threw anything that was in my scrap bin on the design wall and this is what I came up with."
And then I see some of the beautiful quilts in this book and think, maybe I should venture out with and expanded color palette, because the results are equally beautiful. I also love the quilting on this, which was done by local quilter Abby Latimer, kind of last minute, and I so appreciated her squeezing me in.
I really liked Northern Migration by Melissa Lunden (on the left) and Twirligig by Alex Ledgerwood, both found in the book. Small world--Melissa was my neighbor in Portland for a few months, and I really miss getting together with her and talking quilts and life and everything in between.Giveaway: Lucky Spool is offering a copy of Scraps Inc, Vol 2.
