Classic Half Square Triangle Quilt

The original Star Bright Quilt Pattern, made in 2013.

Star-Bright-Quilt

Last week, I shared my Mendocino Mermaid Improv Quilt, a long standing work in progress that I finally finished. I loved the finished product, and decided to keep the momentum rolling. I dug out a set of forty 6" trimmed (!) half square triangles from the quilt archives, and set to work. These triangles were leftover from my Star Bright Quilt (a free pattern!) and my Stars in the Sky Quilt [which became the Solitude Star Quilt Pattern] each made in the summer of 2013 and gifted to two new nephews.

In the original quilts, I ditched the navy blocks last minute, and only used my favorite combinations.  I changed the Solitude Star Quilt layout at the last minute, and I ended up with a collection of half square triangles that didn't really sing. I stuck them in a box, and there they sat.

A few weeks ago, I decided to add in a few bright yellow prints, a few navy prints, a few low volume prints, a pop of teal, and some solid white, and I love the finished product.  I made about forty more blocks. I broke from my tradition of star quilts and used this classic, simple, triangle layout.Guess what. I love it! And I also love that there is a cohesion between the three quilts, without them being matchy-matchy.So, if you have an old WIP and don't love the color combination, or find it boring, make a few more blocks in colors that zing, and finish that quilt!
