Make a 5 Minute Portable Design Wall + SS18 Pre-Order Pricing Ending!
Each summer, Faith Jones, Lee Heinrich and I host a summer quilt along called the Summer Sampler--the blocks this year are unique, based on places the designers have been (or in my case, would love to visit). Pre-order pricing ends Sunday, and we start Monday!
I have 2 design walls that I use all the time--a smaller, portable design board that fits 12.5'' blocks, and a larger, permanent installation in my sewing room. This block is called Water Well, and it is the first block in this year's Summer Sampler. The block has twelve 1.5'' strips--not fussy to sew--but the strips certainly didn't fit on my small, portable design board. So I made a new one!
It took less than 5 minutes and cost less than $5. [Will cost a bit more if you don't have any batting scraps on hand--ask a quilting friend--likely she or he does!] Win, win!
Supplies:
(1) 20'' x 30'' Foam Core Board--I purchased mine from Target
(1) 26'' x 36'' Batting or Piece--I used a scrap from an earlier quilt
Staple gun or duct tape
Instructions:
Super simple! Simply wrap the batting or flannel around the front of the foam core, pulling it taut.
You can tape it into place if you want--then use the staple gun or duct tape to secure it into place.Voila!
A simple solution to get your pieces from your cutting area to your sewing area, especially for those blocks with more than a few pieces.
Happy sewing!
