Library Totes // Sewn

 My friend's neighbor, a talented quilter, once looked at her project (and one of mine as well) and said, "Ah, I see there is some skill-building going on here." Ouch. But we laugh now, and when we are working on something new, we just shrug and say, "skill-building." Heaven knows there are about one hundred sewing skills I would like to have, but don't.  I decided this was the summer--to sew clothing, to learn to read patterns, to try new quilt patterns, to do something interesting with my quilting, etc. etc. etc.

Project number one--make a bag! I have never made a bag. Not a purse, not a clutch with a handle, nada. Last week, I sent a note in my son's backpack asking what his teachers' favorite colors are. Both of them, surprisingly, answered purple. I had some great Kitty Yoshida City Girl and Denyse Schmidt Hope Valley laying around, so I bought a simple Grocery Bag pattern by Keyka Lou and went to town. I love that the bag is reversible, that it was quick and easy to make, and that it rolls up and can fit in your purse. Perfect for the farmer's market or library. My son gave the bags to his teacher last week at the school picnic, and one of them started using it right away. I think they liked them! Next up, a bag with actual shape :)
