Quilt Market Is a Whirlwind // Favorite Things

I was lucky to be able to go the International Quilt Market this past weekend. I'm home now. The babies are asleep, my husband listened (nicely) to my rundown, and even looked at my pictures. :) I put a ton of pictures on my flickr site; I used my sister's camera and iphone since I didn't have room to bring my dslr, so the pictures aren't the best. But then, neither is convention lighting.

I went to Quilt Market the semi-annual industry trade show) in May in Salt Lake City, this time I was a bit more relaxed. I introduced myself to a lot of new people, but it was really nice to see so many familiar faces.  I think meeting and talking with artists, designers, bloggers, authors, shop owners, etc. is almost as fun as seeing all of the new fabrics, booths, quilts, etc. I came home with a sketchbook filled with ideas and, ahem, a bit more fabric to start using, asap. I feel like I am a bit in design overload at this point. I guess I have a sick child to rock for a few days, so that will probably help bring me down from my quilt market high. I felt a bit obnoxious tweeting more than normal, but had fun doing it. :)

I have a few favorites (okay, who am I kidding, more than a few). Here are some of them:

Seven Islands  (home to Nano Iro, Heather Ross, Etsuko Furuya, Melody Miller, etc.) always has a booth full of incredible pieces made from incredible fabric. I love Melody Miller's new Ruby Star Shining... who doesn't want a bag made from these clocks? I got to meet Melody, which was a treat. I have some of her strike offs... now what to make?

Anna Maria Horner's booth could be a post all of its own (and I could sit and talk to her assistant, Pierette, for hours). I plan to upload pictures from a camera soon. But here are two from my phone... the colors, the textures, it is incredible. A pintuck-voile quilt. A velveteen couch, and quilt.  Crewel everything. Needlepoint canvasses. Voiles and flannels and embroidery. Ah. heaven

I loved Michael Miller's idea boards--it makes me want to use Pinterest a bit more (never thought you would hear anyone say that, eh?) If you look really closely, you can see the quilt I made for Laura Gunn's new line, Garden Windows. It spent most of it's time folded up in a cart in Michael Miller's booth. It was fun to walk by Michael Miller and see a lot of shop's ordering Garden Wall, too.

 

I loved Summersville by Lu Summers. Her quilts, her designs. Beautiful.

 

Sample Spree is always fun. And a little bit nuts. And sometimes, a lot bit nuts. I can't get enough of the Pure Elements solids from Art Gallery. Neither can anyone else, from the looks of it. I got in a bit later than expected, but it looks like I didn't fare too badly. I was hoping Andover had some of  Thomas Knauer's new line from Andover, Pear Tree.  I went to Thomas' Schoolhouse (basically, a day's worth of lectures and presentations from designers, authors, etc.), and he was very entertaining.  I know that Pam is going to list some of the bundles she got, I didn't do too bad either.

 

Loved the quilts from the Lecien designers... the first one is Made in Cherry by Sarah Fielke and the second one is Rosalie Quinn's from her new Folk Art collection. (I was able to get Sarah's new book, Sewing from Little Things, signed. I'm really excited about that one!)

Reunion, by Sweetwater--loved the quilts, and there are some really great projects in their book, which I stood in line to get, Sweetwater's Simple Home. 

I hope you enjoyed the eye candy. Can you believe I don't think I took a single picture of people, including myself? There is more to come... a few new to me pattern designers that I LOVED and think you might too. Now, I'm going to go collapse, and hope the baby sleeps through the night. :)
