Happy New Year + Biscornu Pincushions

Happy New Year, friends!I wanted to pop in with this fun little project, in case you are looking for a small sewing finish to jump start your 2018.

My mother-in-law taught me and 2 of my sister-in-laws how to make biscornu pincushions, and they were a hit! We made some with less filling [ground walnut shells, purchased at a pet store] and buttons on either side.  I'm not sure if I should call it "lazy" or "design choice" but I made these three without the buttons, and filled to the brim with walnut shells.

Biscornu is French for quirky, and these pincushions certainly are! They are a little fiddly to make, almost impossible to photograph, and pretty darn cool.  We didn't use a particular tutorial, but you can google biscornu pincushion and find all sorts of things. Each pincushion needs 2 charm squares, some thread, and a whole lot of ground walnut shells.

Happy sewing!Katie
