This week's task: Piece all of the Half Square Triangle (HST)  pairs!I included a few tips, tricks, and template ideas for HSTs below from some of my favorite makers. Don't forget to post photos to Instagram using the #solitudestarsquiltalong, and it isn't too late if you still want to grab a pattern and join in the fun!

Is there anything better than a great big stack of half square triangles? Maybe hsts that someone else trimmed for you, I guess!I love half square triangles because they are so versatile. You can make so many different kind of blocks with the same set of pieces hsts.

This stack is part of a 100 days of Kona Color project that I started last year, before my life took a few unexpected turns. I killed it for the first 50 days, and then crashed and burned. You can read more about the project here.

  • My good friend Lee at Freshly Pieced sells Perfect HSTs Templates in 10 different sizes--you can download digital files to paper piece multiple half square triangles all at once. I've used them on a few projects, and they are fantastic. You can read more about it and see examples at the link below.

  • Alyce, from Blossom Heart Quilts, has a great list of HST tips to help improve accuracy.

  • Amy Smart put together a video for Pattern Drop in 2017, where she shows how to make 16 HSTs so quickly! Definitely worth using if you have a lot of HSTs to make that are all the same color combination. She originally created the video as a companion to her Hopscotch Quilt.

Let's Quilt Along together, started Monday, March 18. It isn't too late to join in! You are welcome to follow the quilt along posts, even if you start after that date.

If you already have a copy of the pattern, I hope join in! If you don't, you can grab one here:

Solitude Star Pattern

The pattern includes instructions for two sizes, baby and large throw (44'' x 44'' and 76'' x 76'').

This graphic quilt looks great with solids, prints, or a combination of the two–make sure to tag your quilts and projects with #solitudestarquilt.

This 7 page pattern has clear, tested instructions, full color illustrations, a coloring page, and additional color ideas to help plan your quilt. I originally purchased the stack on the left, and then realized that I had some long saved (hoarded) Heather Ross Fabrics that would work perfectly for this quilt! Yay for using stash fabric. Since the Quilt Along doesn't start until 3/18, you have plenty of time to gather/find/purchase fabric.  This quilt is a great scrap buster.
