Stacked Coin Quilt // Finished Modern Quilts

Isla Quilt.jpg

I have made a lot of baby quilts in the last few months! (I still haven't finished my now five month old's quilt. I think that is next on the list). I have had a lot of fun making them, and learned a ton. But I think I'm done making baby quilts for a while. I'm going to go back to buying books and clothes for new babies like a normal person.I loved gathering the fabric for this quilt. And apparently, I'm more predictable than I realized. There are approximately fifteen fabrics here, and I asked my husband if he could pick my favorite three. Yep. He was able to pick out all three. My best bud picked two of the three. :) (In case you are wondering, its the pink cathedral print, red rick rack, and pink cobblestone). The binding is a brown pindot--I debated about red or pink, but the brown kept the quilt from looking too Valentines Day-ish. The quilting is more fun in person--a kind of wave to mimic the circles and ric rac in the quilt.Lessons learned: If you don't like the quilting, its worth picking it out. Before you bind and wash it. I hemmed and hawed, and finally picked out a few of the waves that I didn't like (before said binding and washing. I've tried to do it the other way. Not very easy). If I was going to quilt it over, I would have done the waves closer together, and quilted them completely randomly (i.e. not trying to have all of the waves nest together.)Favorite Part: Baby Isla made it here safe and sound. Hurrah!
