Antique Quilts from my Great Grandmother // Favorite Things

Last Saturday, I got a package in the mail from my grandmother--she had called earlier in the week to tell me that she was sending me some quilts made by her mother, Annie Droubay. Since I was her only grandchild with children, she wanted to send them to me, and asked me to use them. I don't think she knew how into quilting I have become. That, coupled with my passion for history, made this the perfect gift!

I learned something else interesting when I called to thank her. My great aunt Kathleen had a fabric store in Tooele, Utah for years and years. These two quilts were samples that my great grandmother made for her daughter's shop. How cool is that? They are wholecloth quilts, hand quilted, and one of them has a pretty sweet ruffle! (I remember helping my grandma and her sisters hand quilt a quilt or two when I was in college. I was terrible, of course, and they were gracious).

Thanks, grandma, and thanks, great-grandma Droubay, for such a lovely gift.

Note: We are going to be without internet all weekend, perhaps longer. Boo! Isn't it odd how you can come to rely so much on something like the internet?
