Have You Ever Unbasted a Quilt? // Works in Progress

I am happy to announce that I am evolving as a quilter. I basted my son's Pocket Full of Sunshine Quilt last night. Instead of forging ahead with basting and quilting when I noticed that it needed quilt surgery, I painstakingly un-basted and unpicked it. Twice. I have made a few quilts where I noticed a problem (pulled seam, etc) after basting it. The problems are usually in the middle of the quilt. I hate basting quilts. Who wants to do it twice.

Quilt Surgery
Here is my PSA: unbaste the quilt. Do it right.  It is worth it.  (Or even better, pay close attention to your seams before you baste your quilts!  Sometimes, seams come apart, aren't sewn exactly perfectly, etc. At least in the Swim, Bike, Quilt world...)

I have been working on this quilt off an on for almost 18 months. Embarrassing, but true. Another day or 2 longer isn't going to kill me. Even if at midnight I think it might :)

In happy news, I finished machine binding this quilt last night. It is destined for a good friend's baby, one we are ever so happy to help welcome to her family!!!  It was a collaboration, a friend basted and quilted it for me.

Have you heard about the Sewing Summit Scholarship? No? Check it out, post haste.

If you follow me on Twitter, you have seen that I have been tweeting a lot of "4 Favorites 4 Friday" Sewing Summit posts. Why? I'm the Sewing Summit's Website Coordinator, and I've been having a great time with the 4 Favorites 4 Friday teacher features. A quick, interesting read (I hope!) filled with sewing tips, beautiful pictures of a favorite item the teacher has made and one made by someone else, and a wildcard question. Check it out!

Finally, if you are looking for some inspiration this Wednesday morning, have you seen my friend Elizabeth's newly organized sewing studio? I die!

Have you linked up a project for Jennifer of Ellison Lane Quilt's Summer Sewing link up? You have until June 17.

Have you seen all of the EZ Dresden tutorials?

Happy Sewing!
