Summer Coins // Finished Modern Quilt

Welcome to the international version of the 100 Quilts for Kids Blog Hop! One of the things I love about the sewing/blogging world is the chance to make friends (and even meet them on occasion--Cheryl, Amy and I had lunch in Houston last fall) from all over the world. My mom made this quilt top with fabric I sent home with her in June. I love this fabric, but new I could never have time to make something with it.  The quilt pattern is based on the Stacked Coins Quilt Along that Elizabeth from Don't Call Me Betsy hosted last year. I quilted and bound the quilt in the car on the way to the beach--I only bind quilts on the way to somewhere, by the way.  I snapped some pictures with my iphone, as my camera ran out of juice early on in the trip. Note to self: pack the charger, even if you think you have 2 charged batteries.I had a lot of fun quilting this quilt--wavy lines down the columns of coins, a big meander around the outside border, and nothing in the white columns. Something new every time and I'm bound to get better, right?

Some of these fabrics are oldies but goodies: an old Erin Michael print (Mod Mum from Uptown), Wee Woodland stripe by Keiki, Ta Dot in Gold, an Amy Butler Lotus Print, and Pearl Bracelet from Lizzy House's Red Letter Day, among other random prints.
