I wanted to share a final quilt of 2012 with you--this is Neon Kites, a custom baby quilt I made for Andrea Howe of For the Love Of.  Andrea shared her son's adorable nursery here... and I was pretty happy when she said that the quilt was her favorite part [you really should click over. I would love to live in a room that looks like that].  The first two shots are of the back of the quilt.

I had a fun collaboration with my friend Miranda, who suggested that Andrea contact me (thanks, Miranda!) Miranda designed the front of the quilt in Photoshop--we learned that Photoshop doesn't always translate perfectly to fabric, so this is a bit different than her original design. But where is the fun in quilting if everything works just how you think it will?

I quilted this one using dense, randomly spaced straight (ish) lines. I finished this quilt in September--I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to get it on the blog. I used Free Spirit solids, and the light green/yellow is a really pretty Art Gallery solid. Andrea wanted a "neon" quilt that would work for a girl or boy, so it was fun to try to figure out "neon" fabrics in an industry that hadn't yet introduced neon solids.

Thanks for being part of Swim, Bike, Quilt in 2012. I appreciate the feedback, but especially the camaraderie that I feel with fellow quilters and sewists. Happy New Year!
