I have been home from the Houston Quilt Market for a month now!

I have attended Quilt Market twice before, but this was my first time with a specific purpose in mind, which was to promote Vintage Quilt Revival with Faith and Lee. Let me just say, Quilt Market is a different ballgame (and much more enjoyable) with an actual purpose. As a bonus, I got to walk the entire Quilt Market floor (2200+ booths filled with quilts, fabric, designers, shop owners, bloggers, quilts, rulers, vintage quilts, off the wall inventions, notions, and more quilts) with Jess in preparation for Mid Atlantic Mod.

Quilt Market is a closed to the public trade show that happens twice a year--the spring market travels but the fall market is always in Houston. And it always falls on my daughter's birthday, but that is neither here nor there. I was lucky and got to stay a few extra days with my sister in Houston, and it was the perfect trip--went to the beach, talked and talked, read books, watched movies, and ate ice cream. Yes!

Happily, an actual physical copy of the book came two days before I left for market, so Lee, Faith and I each had a book, which of course we tried to show to as many people as we could!  The response was tremendous and it was such a good experience for each of us.

We also did a schoolhouse presentation (30 minutes) about the book--how it is set up, who the audience is, what makes it different from other books, and how it can be used! Our answer--this book is for everyone--regardless of "style"--whether you have been quilting for 30 years or learned to quilt six months ago via the internet, this book is for you!

Some observations:

The "It" color is anything that is bold, rich, and vibrant

Vanessa from V and Co had a beautiful booth. She has such an attention to detail, and has some great new patterns out!

Sarah Jane's new line Wee Wander is adorable--with her sweet baby sleeping in the teepee-it was out of this world cute.

Blue is Still My Favorite Color

You are hard pressed to find booths more beautifully put together than those of Art Gallery Fabrics. Seriously, loved the booths from Angela Walters (new line Drift) , Jeni Baker (new line Dreamin' Vintage), and Leah Duncan.

Paper-piecing is awesome

heatherbailey_quiltmarket_lottidaI loved the butterfly in Heather Bailey's booth. I have it on good authority (her husband) that this will not be a pattern, but isn't it amazing?

Innovation is queen

Cotton + Steel is a new collaboration between RJR Fabrics and  Alexia Abegg, Melody Miller, Rashida Coleman-HaleSarah Watts, and Kim Kight.  You should watch their video--Melody's husband is a videographer and it is beautiful. Can you imagine being RJR and having this talented group approach you? Best. Day. Ever.

Detail Matters

Phew! I took about 100 more pictures but I will stop. My brain is still processing things I saw, people I met and hung out with (always the best part), and inspiration and ideas for what to do next. The world is a beautiful place!
