Summer Sampler 2016 // Weeks 3 and 4

Mondays are my favorite this summer-- it means a new Summer Sampler 2016 block is released. There are a few really fun paper-pieced blocks and blocks with curves coming up, so Weeks 3 + 4 have been an introduction to both of those techniques, for those who need it, a refresher for those who need it, and fun for the rest of us.This week's block is shown above--it is called X Spot and was designed by Faith Jones.  Faith has provided a paper-piecing tutorial for this block on her blog, make sure to check it out. The block is bold and fun to sew and reminds me of a butterfly, for some reason.

Last week's block was Snow Cone, designed by Nicole Daksiewicz of Modern Handcraft.  I loved seeing so many people sew curves for the first time, and I think the general consensus was: oh, that isn't as hard as I thought it was. In fact, that was pretty great! I loved the creativity of the blocks, especially the tri-colored snow cones.  There are so many great blocks on Instagram [#summersampler2016], definitely worth checking out.Speaking of snow cones and summer, we have a busy week of tennis lessons and swim lessons, and trying to keep the baby (who loves the pool and has started sleeping in her swimsuit over pajamas) out of said swim lessons. Wish me luck!
