Paper Chain Block of the Month--A Paper Pieced Quilt in Progress
I can’t believe it is December 7—the 12 (and final) block for the Paper Chain Block of the Month was sent to subscribers today. I’ve loved seeing all of the different Paper Chain Blocks, and color combinations. This block of the month is a “greatest hits” Block of the Month, and was sent free to everyone who had purchased the Summer Samplers 2016-2018. It is available for purchase via the button below—all block patterns will be sent to you, and the finishing instructions will be sent next Monday (or if you are purchasing after Monday, at the time of purchase).
I love the variety of blocks—this one is called Princess Cut, and was designed by Lee Heinrich

This is the Chrysler Building Block, designed by Christopher Thompson. I have made a lot of samplers, but this is the first one I will finish that is set on point. I think its so much fun to see how the blocks change as they are set on point.
I typically make 1 sampler quilt each year—this year I have made three! This is the Summer Sampler 2020 (on the left) and the Paper Chain BOM on the right—I usually use a white or neutral for the block background, I like that this BOM pushed me out of my comfort zone.
One of my favorite things about this quilt is the color palette—it is so pretty and soothing. In a year that no one could have predicted (hello, covid) its been really nice to have a low intensity, ongoing project to work on each month.
If you are ever making a ton of 12’’ blocks (finished size), then I can’t recommend the Creative Grids 12.5’’ Square it up and Fussy Cutting Ruler. Unlike a regular square ruler, this one has diagonals running in both directions, as well as a center grid, that really helps when lining up intense blocks (like this one!)
A few months ago, I was so excited to finish my Paper Chain BOM (and test the finishing instructions) that I spent a day or two, making blocks and putting the quilt together, and took almost no photos. Oops!
