The Alta Cross Quilt Pattern is such a fun one to sew up. It is beginner friendly, simple, and the quilt pattern includes quilts in 3 different sizes, from baby/lap quilt to a generous twin/full size.

I used Spectacle, a fabric collection by Christian Robinson for Cotton and Steel to make this quilt for one of my nephews. Robinson is one of my favorite children’s illustrators, and I just loved this collection.

This is a basic patchwork quilt, fancied up a little bit. I have written the directions so that all three sizes are fat quarter friendly—many quilters either have a fat quarter bundle laying around, or their eye on one!

This is definitely a “before times” quilt, because I laid it out on my mother in law’s beautiful kitchen island—oh, how I would love a sewing date this weekend!

Sometimes, using a low volume or barely there print can really jazz up a simple quilt design.

One of my other favorite things about a simple quilt design is the very many quilting designs that would look good! Abby of Latimer Lane quilted this one. I think a wavy pattern, or a crosshatch, or a circular pattern (bubbles, stippling, target, etc) would look really fun with this pattern.

This larger sizes, especially, would be great candidates for a scrappy quilt! Happy sewing.

p.s. And not to be forgotten—the quilt back! I don’t always use up my scraps on the back of the quilt, but in this case, I had a bunch of strips (I used an Accuquilt Studio to cut out my fabrics, and it always results in strips) leftover that I wanted to use! I paired them with my favorite Carolyn Friedlander 108’’ leftovers, and voila! A pieced quilt back.
