Observatory Block of the Month--The March Star Block
I can’t believe that it is March 1 already! I think I say this every month, and still, it is true. Today is the block release day for the March Star, the third block in the Observatory 2021 Block of the Month. Everyone who has subscribed has received an email with a link to download the March Block pattern. If you haven’t subscribed yet but would like to, please join in at any time. I have put together a short series of emails that you will start to receive once you join, that talk about fabric choices, the Facebook group, suggestions on how to stay organized, etc.
The blocks are oversized—16-1/2’’ x 16-1/2’’—and fun to sew!
This beginner-friendly sampler pattern features 12 different block designs and is suitable for all skill levels.
Complete finishing instructions to make a 64'' x 84'' quilt
The quilt pattern is written with instructions specific to the solids quilt blocks (shown below), and I have included cutting instructions for the rainbow blocks!
The March Star, like the February Star block, has 2 piecing options. You can either traditionally piece the entire block, or you can foundation paper piece a portion of the block. The orange quilt block above is partially paper pieced, and the solids block below is partially paper pieced.
I think this star might be my favorite of the bunch, especially in the solids.
I have put included some paper piecing resources below, both videos and photo tutorials.
