Today I am sharing my Charleston Square Quilt Pattern (PDF). This fat quarter friendly pattern is excellent for beginners, and has instructions for making the quilt in two sizes. This 11 page pattern has clear instructions, full color illustrations, and a coloring page to help plan your quilt.

lap quilt: 46'' x 50''
throw quilt : 71'' x 80''

Some of my favorite fabrics to use are prints that are tone on tone color, or color + white. These prints from Heather Bailey’s True Colors line worked so well together! It is a rainbow quilt, without being in your face rainbow.

The original Charleston Square Quilt (shown above in bright solids) was made in 2014—I literally finished machine binding the quilt, snapped a few quick photos, and stuffed it into a box the day movers came to pack up our Alexandria, Virginia home. Since then, this perfectly sized picnic quilt has been to many baseball and soccer games, and trips to the local parks.

This quilt pattern works great for both solids, prints, and a mix of both. I think it would be really dramatic with a dark background, as well. This image was taken by Laura Gunn, and also features on of her fabric lines, Koi Gardens.
