100 Days of Kona Color // The Halfway Point

PatternDrop-50.jpg

I am [about] 50 days into my 100 Days of Kona Color project. Time just keeps marching on, doesn't it?  This means I have sewn roughly 50 days in a row! [Took time off when I went to Kansas City for 3 days].It has been an interesting exercise. My normal mantra seems to be, "make all of the blocks in one or two sittings," which while effective, can kind of suck the joy right out of a project. Here are three things I've learned from my first 50 days.

It isn't a race. Most of my sewing seems to be deadline motivated--short windows of time to get a lot done before moving onto the next. It might be effective, but there are, gasp, other ways to sew! I've been working on planning ahead so that I can sew projects in more than 1 or 2 sittings.

2. It is easier to be accurate and enjoy myself when I'm spending only a few minutes a day, making 2 half square triangle pairs.

3. Related to 1 and 2, I don't *have* to have 2 hours to sew to make progress. When I know what the next steps are [i.e. make half square triangle pairs], I can sit down and sew in 10 to 20 many increments, and get as much done in a week as I would in 2 hours. Its satisfying to sew a little here and a little there.

4. Working with colors I don't usually work with is freeing. It helps me see color in an entire new way, and has impacted some of my future project planning. Did you notice, there isn't any white in this entire quilt?! LOL.

5. Spending a few minutes every day is centering. It feels good to create every day, even if only for 5 minutes.

Happy sewing!
