Today is the block release day for the May Star, the fifth block in the Observatory 2021 Block of the Month. As with the February and March blocks, there is an optional paper piecing template for the larger HSTs. Everyone who has subscribed has received an email with a link to download the May Block pattern. If you haven’t subscribed yet but would like to, please join in at any time. I have put together a short series of emails that you will start to receive once you join, that talk about fabric choices, the Facebook group, suggestions on how to stay organized, etc.

I really love the ombre fabric for this project. The piecing is simple, and it adds a bit of pizazz, in the same way that the solid add a lot of crispness, and the scrappy quilts [there are some great ones being made!] add a lot of flair to the pattern.

The blocks are oversized—16-1/2’’ x 16-1/2’’—and fun to sew!

This beginner-friendly sampler pattern features 12 different block designs and is suitable for all skill levels.

Complete finishing instructions to make a 64'' x 84'' quilt

The quilt pattern is written with instructions specific to the solids quilt blocks (shown below), and I have included cutting instructions for the rainbow blocks!

Unlike the last two blocks, there is no paper piecing in this month’s block!
